We Decode the Fear So You Can See Clearly

At aiangst.com, our mission is to explore the anxieties and uncertainties surrounding artificial intelligence with honesty, depth, and clarity.

AI Angst is a digital publication and online platform dedicated to exploring the cultural, ethical, and psychological impact of artificial intelligence. Through essays, analysis, and commentary, we examine how algorithms affect human identity, creativity, work, and society, offering our readers clarity and perspective in an era of rapid technological change.

Our Mission

The world is drowning in AI hype. Every day, a new startup promises to revolutionize everything. Every month, a tech billionaire declares that artificial general intelligence is just around the corner. And every year, billions of dollars flow into projects that produce little more than engagement metrics and investor presentations.

AI Angst was born from a simple conviction: someone needs to tell the truth.

We don't deny the power of machine learning. We don't dismiss the genuine breakthroughs in protein folding, medical imaging, or materials science. But we refuse to let marketing departments and venture capitalists define the conversation.

Our promise: We will always prioritize human problems over technological theater. We will question the hype. We will celebrate the real wins. And we will never let you forget that behind every algorithm is a human choice.

What We Cover

AI Angst sits at the intersection of technology, ethics, and culture. Our analysis spans:

  • The Economics of Hype: Who profits from AI fear and AI fantasy? We dissect the financial incentives behind the marketing machine.

  • Psychological Impact: How does constant exposure to algorithmic feeds affect mental health, creativity, and human connection?

  • Algorithmic Accountability: When AI makes mistakes—who is responsible? We examine the governance gaps and regulatory failures.

  • Human-Machine Interaction: From chatbot psychosis to workplace surveillance, we study how humans adapt to (and resist) intelligent systems.

  • Global AI Politics: The US-China rivalry, export controls, and the race to define international standards.

  • The Real Science: Celebrating genuine breakthroughs like AlphaFold while calling out vaporware and self-dealing.

Who We Are

AI Angst was founded in 2025 by Jans Bock-Schroeder

He spent over two decades shaping visual narratives at the intersection of art, photography, and the luxury market before turning his lens toward the most disruptive force of our time: artificial intelligence. JBS founded AI Angst to cut through the marketing noise and examine what this technology actually means for culture, ethics, and the human psyche.

His background in crafting stories for high-end brands gave him a sharp eye for hype, and a deep respect for the moments when technology genuinely moves society forward. At AI Angst, he brings that same curatorial rigor to every analysis, treating AI not as magic or menace, but as a mirror we are still learning to read.

He writes and publishes about AI not from the pedestal of an expert who has it all figured out, but as a curious observer learning in real time, asking the uncomfortable questions alongside his readers and refining his thinking with every new development.

Our Editorial Principles

AI Angst operates under a strict editorial framework designed to earn and maintain your trust:

Principle What It Means
No Paywalls on Truth Core analysis and commentary remain freely accessible. Knowledge about technology's impact should not be a luxury good.
No Undisclosed Funding We do not accept funding from AI companies we cover. Conflicts of interest are disclosed immediately.
Human-First Framing Every article asks: who benefits, who is harmed, and what does this mean for human agency?
Technical Accuracy We verify claims with primary sources and subject matter experts. No parroting press releases.
Global Perspective AI is not just Silicon Valley. We cover developments in China, Europe, Africa, and the Global South.

Why "Angst"?

The name is deliberate. Angst, that deep, persistent anxiety about the future, captures something the tech industry prefers to ignore. Behind every glowing product demo and every promise of utopia, there is a quiet unease. Workers wonder if their jobs will exist in five years. Parents worry about the algorithms shaping their children's attention. Citizens question whether democracy can survive weaponized misinformation.

We don't wallow in fear. We name it, examine it, and use it as a starting point for clearer thinking. The goal is not to paralyze readers with dread, but to equip them with the critical tools needed to navigate a transforming world.

"The first step toward clarity is admitting you are confused. AI Angst exists because the conversation about artificial intelligence has become dangerously one-sided. We are here to restore the balance."

Frequently Asked Questions

Not at all. We are pro-human. We celebrate genuine scientific breakthroughs like AlphaFold and acknowledge the real productivity gains from well-designed tools. What we oppose is the reckless hype, the exploitation of human psychology, and the concentration of power in the hands of a few unaccountable corporations.

AI Angst is independently funded through reader subscriptions, consulting services, and select partnerships with organizations aligned with our editorial mission. We do not accept funding from AI companies we cover. All financial relationships are disclosed transparently.

Yes. We welcome pitches from writers, researchers, and technologists who share our commitment to honest, human-centered analysis. Send your pitch to pitch@aiangst.com with a brief bio and a summary of your proposed article.

We use AI tools for research assistance, data analysis, and occasional drafting support—just as we would use a search engine or a spreadsheet. Every published article is edited, fact-checked, and approved by human editors. We believe in transparency: if AI played a significant role in creating a piece, we disclose it.

Most tech media is funded by the industry it covers—through advertising, event sponsorships, or direct investment. AI Angst is independent. We don't chase clicks with sensationalism, and we don't publish glowing reviews of products because a PR team asked nicely. Our loyalty is to readers, not to the companies we write about.

"Decode the Fear" is our tagline and our method. We believe that fear of AI—whether justified or irrational—can be a productive starting point for inquiry. By examining what frightens us about technology, we can identify the real risks, distinguish them from marketing fiction, and build a healthier relationship with the tools that shape our lives.

AI Angst is headquartered in Paris, France, with contributors and correspondents across Europe, North America, and Asia. Our global perspective reflects the reality that AI is not a Silicon Valley story—it is a human story unfolding everywhere.
